Breakfast: banana pancakes, recipe from How It All Vegan cookbook, and coffee
Lunch fruit smoothie and garlic bread.
Yesterday afternoon I watched Oprah. The studio did a one week "vegan challenge" and that episode had Micheal Pollan, a vegan author, and a woman who ran a "humane" slaughterhouse. During part of the episode, they took a tour of said slaughterhouse talking about all the stuff they were doing to keep the cows calm and giving them dignity before killing them.
What I thought was abit odd was them showing EVERYTHING in the slaughtering process except the actual killing of the cows where they shoot a bolt through the back of their head that allegedly renders them brain dead and unaware of pain. Later on I watched Earthlings on Google video and saw footage of a slaughterhouse where they used the bolt throught the brain method to kill them, but some of the coww were still moving afterwords when they were hung by one legs to be slaughtered.
Both that episode of Oprah and Earthlings reinforced why I'm vegan. Even if you keep a cow calm, try to treat it with dignity and everything goes well in the process, you are still needlessly killing an animal and the last thing that animal feels is a bolt through their brain. And I don't belive that's a painless, humane or dignified way to die.
